Alison Thompson is a Level 3 Pilates Instructor, registered with CIMSPA (Chartered Institute for the Management of Sport and Physical Activity).
Having qualified as a Level 2 Pilates Instructor in 2008, Alison gained her Level 3 qualification in 2010. She is qualified to design Pilates classes for people with common orthopaedic conditions and those who are pre-and post-natal. Alison has also delivered Pilates sessions in an all male NHS medium secure mental health unit. In March 2019, Alison attained a VTCT Level 3 Award in Nutrition for Physical Activity.
Suffering with lower back pain for many years, highly likely as a result of sitting at a desk as a secretary in the Foreign Office and then some years later, in the NHS as a Project Manager, Alison was inspired to start Pilates by one of her karate students. The subsequent training in Pilates and constant practice has improved her posture dramatically, thereby reducing her lower back pain.
Prior to teaching Pilates, Alison trained as a Karate Coach and holds 6th Dan Black Belt. Training in karate since 1981, Alison has competed nationally and coached many students to 1st Dan. The style is Washinkai Karate and more information about this can be found on the Karate tab. Alison qualified as a Nordic Walking Instructor in 2014 with Nordic Walking UK to deliver Nordic Walking groups.
